Science Experiments with Ayden's Dad

What happens when you increase air pressure? What happens when you decrease air pressure? Students in Mrs. Liberti's second grade class had an opportunity to observe and perform science experiments to find out! Ayden's dad came and demonstrated some interesting scientific principles. The children made their hypotheses and then created Alka-Seltzer rockets! Many thanks to Ayden's dad for a fun and informative science lesson.

Writer's Workshop-Mrs. Keeley's class

Mrs. Keeley's first grade class listened to the book, The Mitten, by Jan Brett. Then, they wrote in their Writer's Notebooks and described what they would put inside their own mitten. Here are photos of some of the children sharing their work. The illustrations were amazing!

Junior Achievement-Grade 2

Volunteers from HSBC came to South Street School today to teach our second graders. They used posters and games to offer practical information about businesses and the many jobs those businesses offer in a community.

Students explored production methods through a simulation game and they learned about taxes, decision making and how money flows through an economy.

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrpreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

We are always pleased when the JA volunteers visit us.

Many thanks to the coordinator, Tina Florentine, and all the HSBC volunteers.

Imagination Playground

Imagination Playground combines the sensory, motor, and intellectual development benefits of block play in a flexible and adaptable format that encourages greater collaboration and physical activity. Staff members are being trained as "play associates" to encourage appropriate use of the Imagination Playground. The blocks will be used during PE periods and during recess. We were able to make this purchase thanks to a generous donation from one of our South Street School families. Here are some pictures of Mrs. Capobianco/Mrs. Hayton's class using their imagination!
