Second graders at SSS and 10th grade students in Mrs. McCoy's English class at ESM High School are literary pen pals. The students read the same picture books and write letters back and forth to discuss the stories. Yesterday, the HS students came to South Street to meet their pen pals. In the spring, we will visit the HS for a reading/writing celebration.

Responsible Students!

Second graders in Mrs. Castoro/Mrs. Curtin's class are very responsible students. For the second week in a row, they have returned 100% of their books to the library. Mrs. Castoro said that they have also shown responsibility by returning their classroom's guided reading books each day. Congratulations!

Fire Safety

Many thanks to the Manorville Fire Department for their informative and interactive presentation to our students today! We also appreciate their special t-shirt gift.  Sparky, the fire dog reminds us: "Stay low and go" and practice two ways out!

Board of Education Presentation

Last night, Mya and Costa made a presentation to the Board of Education. The Board members and the community enjoyed seeing and hearing how first graders are using iPads to conduct research in the library-media center.

Learning about Properties

Here are some pictures of Mrs. Bobal/Mr. Edwards' first grade class in the Science Lab. They examined a gourd and investigated its properties: color, size, shape, texture, and weight.

Imagination Playground
