Mrs. Athanasopoulos and Mrs. Castoro's classes are sharing their love of poetry with a local nursing home, as their service learning project. The students collected poems about Thanksgiving and poems that would also be meaningful to senior citizens. Then, they created placemats for Thanksgiving dinner. The poems were pasted to the placemats and are being distributed to the nursing home to brighten their spirits and to let the patients know we are thinking of them..

Junior Achievement-Grade 2
Today, second grade classes participated in a Junior Achievement program.
Junior Achievement is a global not-for-profit organization supported by
businesses, foundations, government and individuals. JA’s purpose is to inspire
and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. This is accomplished
through the dedication of volunteers from businesses and the community, who
volunteer their time to teach the JA programs.
Volunteers from JP Morgan Chase and Suffolk County National Bank
were in all the second grade classrooms teaching our students about “Our Community." The volunteers were trained by JA
staff and this program ties in with our second grade social studies curriculum.
