First Grade Field Day

Here are some photos of our first grade field day. Although it was cool outside, at least it wasn't raining this afternoon. The boys and girls had a great time.

Second Grade Field Day/Celebration

Today was field day! The second graders enjoyed all the activities!  After the outside fun, they had lunch catered by Applebees, compliments of the SMPTA. Then they enjoyed a dance party in the gym to celebrate the end of their SSS experience. Thank you to Mrs. Chanenchuk and Ms. Chomicki, our PE teachers. Thank you to the DAS Fitness leaders. And thank you to the SMPTA for lunch, a special gift, and the DJ.

In2Books

SSS second graders and ESM high school students in Mrs. McCoy's class have been pen pals this year. Pairs of students read the same storybooks and then wrote letters about the books. The pen pals met each other at SSS in October and today the second graders visited the high school for an end-of-year literary celebration. All the students are really In2Books!

The LEGO Link to Literature

Last night, we held a parent-child workshop that linked LEGOs to literature. We called it Read! Build! Write!  Children listened to stories, built with LEGO bricks, and wrote about their creations. It was a wonderful, imaginative evening!

iPad Research

Second grade students in Mrs. Athanasopoulos/Mrs. Curtin's class used non-fiction books and their new iPads today to research similarites and differences between chicks and ducklings. They worked in cooperative groups and recorded their information on Venn diagrams.
