December artists

Take a look at some of our artist and their creative projects...

Share the Warmth

Two first grade classes conducted a coat drive for needy families in our community. They read age-appropriate books about being homeless and wrote letters to accompany their donation. Thanks to Mrs. Keeley/Mr. Edwards class and Mrs. Frick's class for sharing the warmth!

Author Visit

This afternoon, we hosted a visit from Lisa Krekeler, author of Emily and the Kindness Bracelet. Ms. Krekeler's book inspires kindness through positive communication in school and at home. She is an enthusiastic speaker who excites children about being kind to one another. As a jewelry designer, Ms. Krekeler also hand makes each kindness bracelet that the book inspired. KINDNESS...pass it on!

Ringing the Bell

After learning about people who are homeless, students from Mrs. Jordan's first grade class volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army on Friday night, in front of King Kullen in Eastport. What a wonderful experience!

Newsday's FutureCorp Project

Our kindergarten service learning project was selected to be featured in Newsday's FutureCorp section. Kindergarten students have been learning about families and the community. They learned that some families do not live in homes and have to spend time in shelters. They read books about homelessness and they will be writing letters/cards to the children who live in shelters. When they learned that some children do not own books, they decided to conduct a book drive. Over 700 books have been collected!
