Fall Acrostic Poems

In our library, Ms. Urso taught students how to write acrostic poems using the iPad. Here are some photos of children in Mrs. Athanasopoulos/Mrs. Curtin's class.

A Petco Grant

Mrs. Austin was successful when she recently applied for a grant from Petco. Her project was approved and now the children in Mrs. Austin's second grade class are the owners of a leopard gecko. The students are researching how to take care of a gecko and finding information about a gecko's habitat. The students voted on a name for their class pet, Bling.  Mrs. Austin wrote the grant with the hope of instilling responsibility in her young students. The children will share their information about pet care with others in SSS when they create a bulletin board in the hallway.

I Spy a Birthday Celebration!

Parents are creating some unique birthday experiences in our classrooms. Today, RJ's mom transformed our students into detectives and distributed "spy kits" to the children in her son's first grade class.  They completed four missions and earned a prize. Happy birthday, RJ!

Pinwheels for Peace

This morning, we held our annual Pinwheels for Peace celebration in honor of the Intentional Day of Peace. Students watched their decorated pinwheels spin, as we all formed the shape of a peace sign and sang "I've Got Peace Like a River." Many thanks to the Manorville Fire Department and to Daniel Krieger Photography for the photos of our event. Our student are hoping for "whirled" peace!

Summer Reading Incentive Celebration

First and second graders who completed reading logs over the summer were rewarded today with a superhero celebration. The students took a photograph with a superhero and decorated a picture frame. They also colored superhero headbands. "Reading is my Superpower!"

PBIS Kick-off Assembly

Today we held our PBIS kick-off assembly. The children watched skits performed by some superheroes and they watched a video of students acting safely, being responsible, and caring for themselves, others, and the environment.

Kindergarten Superheoroes

Students in Mrs. Capobianco/Mrs. Hayton's kindergarten class earned the privilege of wearing superhero capes. As part of our PBIS initiative, the children who earned 10 sea-star tickets, for positive behavior, could choose a cape to wear for the day. Here they are in music...

iPad Fun in Kindergarten

Mrs. Haas' kindergarten class learned how to scan a QR code with their iPads today, with the assistance of our library-media specialist, Ms. Urso. The children scanned the QR code, which led them to a website where there was a read-aloud of the book, The Crayon Box that Talked.

Download a free QR code reader to your smartphone or tablet, and try it yourself!
